It’s been an eventful year for the staff at BBC Radio 1 this year. With the huge but rather sad news of radio legend Chris Moyles leaving, it comes at a bigger shock that BBC radio favorites Reggie Yates and Vernon Kay are leaving BBC Radio. Reggie who hosts the Official Top 40 Chart every single Sunday has decided to leave radio to focus more on his TV work. Reggie will be replaced by his fellow colleague Jameela Jamil; who currently hosts the request show every Sunday after Reggie. This will be the first time that a female will host the official top 40 chart meaning that BBC Radio have made history. Vernon Kay is also set to leave this year and his replacement will be Matt Edmondson. Vernon has said that he wants to focus on his family more and move over and let someone else get the chance to do what he loves doing best.
Back in September, Chris Moyles decided to leave the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show as he was going into Broadway. Chris was replaced by fellow colleague and T4 presenter Nick Grimshaw. BBC controller Ben Cooper has expressed that he is trying to attract a new audience of listeners to BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra. It is very sad to hear that these two pioneers of radio are leaving better we know that they will be go far in whatever else they choose to do. Both Vernon and Reggie are set to leave at the end of the year.
