Artist of the Month

July’s Artist of the Month: J. Cole

image

Here at Roseberry Productions we like to show appreciation to music and all that comes with it. This month we have chosen J. Cole as our Artist of the Month. I was always a fan of J. Cole’s music. The first time I heard ‘Who Dat’ I liked him. After freshly dropping his new highly anticipated album Born Sinner, my opinion on him as a rapper and a artist changed. His first album Cole World: The Sideline Story was a success and after releasing songs like Work Out, Can’t Get Enough, Lost Ones and Nobody’s Perfect he started to gain respect from the hip hop community which is something the every rapper wants.

As much as I liked Cole Word: The Sideline Story, I didn’t feel like it was J. Cole. It’s clear that being a new artist on a label you have to obey to what they want and say because it’s your first album and it could either do well and be a success or it could flop. That’s why I was patiently waiting for his second album because I knew that he would have control of how artistic the sound and overall image of what the music would sound like. The first single to be officially released off of Born Sinner was Power Trip; a collaboration featuring R&B sensation Miguel. The first time I heard Power Trip I was so impressed. I loved everything about the song. I loved Miguel’s feature, I loved the lyrics and most of all I loved the video. Other songs on the album like Let Nas Down, Forbidden Fruit, Villuminati, Trouble and LAnd of the Snakes really make the album a hit.

My main reasoning for giving J. Cole ‘Artist of the Month’ is because of how impressed I was at Born Sinner. When I listened to the whole album, I couldn’t believe how incredible each song was. Like I previously said, because of the overall sound of his first album I didn’t really think that he would top that but he proved me wrong and he did. Looking at J. Cole 2 years ago and looking at him now he has definitely grown and has proved that he’s not just one of Jay-Z’s artists. Born Sinner is amazing and that’s why I’m giving J. Cole ‘Artist of the Month’.

June’s Artist of the Month: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

image

Here at Roseberry Productions we like to show appreciation to music and all that comes with it. This month we have chosen Macklemore & Ryan Lewis as our Artist of the Month. This hip hop duo from Seattle have been causing somewhat of a stir in the music industry of recent and it’s all stemmed from there amazing music. I have to admit that I fancy the pants of Macklemore and have done for quite some time.

Now the first time I heard Thrift Shop I have to admit that I was a bit confused by the song. Obviously me being British I had no idea what a thrift shop was so I didn’t quite get it (by the way for all the people in the UK, a thrift shop in America is a charity shop to us). However with that being said I constantly found myself singing the chorus and rapping along whenever it came on telly.

His second single Can’t Hold Us which featured the amazingly talented Ray Dalton has become one of my favourite songs of all time. I had no idea that this song was Macklemore’s song because I had heard the song before on an advert so when I saw and heard that the song belonged to Macklemore I couldn’t believe it.

The hip hop community is a hard community to get into and once you gain the respect from the community and they welcome you, you know that you’ve great. White rappers aren’t very common in hip hop. Eminem is probably the most famous white rapper who has gained respect from the hip hop community but I honestly feel that Eminem now has competition with Macklemore.

I’ve listened to the entire album The Heist and it definitely is one of the best albums this year. I am absolutely in love with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis and I hope that they continue to have major success and luck and that’s why I’m giving them Artist of the Month.

April/May’s Artist of the Month: Iggy Azalea

image

Here at Roseberry Productions we like to show appreciation to music and all that comes with it. This month we have chosen Iggy Azalea as our Artist of the Month. This beautiful blonde curvaceous rapper has been turning heads in the music industry with her striking features, long blonde hair and super duper curvy hips. But that’s not the reason why I’m giving Miss Iggy Azalea Artist of the Month…oh now this lady is getting this title purely off of her music.

Now for those of you who don’t know Iggy Azalea let me just inform you that she has been flowing around for a long time in the music industry capturing the attention of rapper T.I. Although her music back then wasn’t exactly off and popping, her name was flowing around her and there. The first time I heard of Iggy was back in 2011 when my friend showed one of her videos and I have to admit I was a little taken back however I decided to give her a chance to let her grown on me and it would seem that the decision to do that was a good idea. Her official first single ‘Work’ has personally become my sumner anthem of mine and I find myself singing “i’ve been up all night trying to get that rich i’ve been work work work work working on my shit”.

Over the last month she has blown up and become the one white female rapper that everyone has fallen in love with. She been touring the country with Rita Ora and I have to admit Iggy has grown on me and I wish her nothing but the best with her career and that’s why she is Artist of the Month.

March’s Artist of the Month: AlunaGeorge

image

Here at Roseberry Productions we like to show appreciation to music and all that comes with it. This month we have chosen AlunaGeorge as our Artist of the Month. Now when it comes to me discovering AlunaGeorge I have to thank BBC Radio 1 and 1xtra because if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t know who AlunaGeorge was. I youtubed them and discovered just how great there music was and I have to be honest, I took an instant like to them. Now I can’t put my finger on exactly what it is about AlunaGeorge that gives me life but I know two things 1) There British (so that’s kinda a clear winner for me) and 2) there music is kinda awesome.

As you guys know I love learning about new artists especially British artists. At this current moment they are gracing themselves on the single ‘White Noise’ with British electro band Disclosure. The reason I’m making AlunaGeorge artist of the month is because I find there music peaceful and exciting. I dunno about you guys but I look forward to them taking over 2013!

February’s Artist(s) of The Month: Frank Ocean and Laura Mvula

frank-ocean-by-Terry-Richardson-940x626

Here at Roseberry Productions we like to show appreciation to music and all that comes with it. This month we have chosen Frank Ocean and Laura Mvula as our Artist(s) of the Month. Even if you don’t want to admit it, you deny that Frank Ocean is talented. This man to me personally is like the current saviour of R&B music at the moment. For me, it’s not just about the music when it comes to Frank Ocean, it’s everything. The voice, the talent, his humbleness and most importantly his appreciation. I first heard about Frank Ocean through a friend of mine who kept banging on about a man called ‘Frank Ocean’ who was just amazing. After about a 1 month of consistently hearing the name ‘Frank Ocean’ I decided to look him up and see what he was all about and let me tell you at first I was a bit on shelf when it came to Frank but I lightened up and quickly became a fan of him and his music.

If someone asked me what my personal favourite Frank Ocean song is, I honestly wouldn’t be able to tell them because I love  all of his songs. When I listen to Frank, I feel like his songs are the soundtrack to my life.

Of recent Frank’s personal life has taken the front seat instead of his music which really irritates me because I feel that his music should speak for him and not his sexuality or personal life. I don’t think I know anyone who doesn’t like Frank Ocean and if I ever do I will honestly knock them out because I am obsessed with this guy (in a good way) and I really do feel like his music is one of the best at the moment.

Now Laura Mvula is a who new kettle of fish. I love Laura Mvula for several different reasons. 1) she’s amazing 2) she amazingly talented 3) she unique and finally 4) she’s bald and beautiful. Laura is artistically amazing. I’m in love with her bald head because I feel that most of the current artists in today’s music are so obsessed with their hair and looking good and I feel that Laura just proves that hair doesn’t make your beauty, you make your own beauty. Laura’s music is peaceful. That’s the one word that I personally feel describes her music. Peaceful. She kind of reminds me of a mixture between Corinne Bailey Rae and Lianne La Havas.

Since she’s a new comer in the industry, she will have more time to showcase her talent and show the world what she has to offer because I do think she has a lot.

I decided to have both Frank Ocean and Laura Mvula as Artist of the Month because in all honesty I couldn’t chose between them on who should have been the number one artist of the month.

January’s Artist of the Month: Rudimental

image

Here at Roseberry Productions we like to show appreciation to music and all that comes with it. This month we have chosen Rudimental as our Artist of the Month. I’ve always been a lover of drum and bass music but never before have I been more in love with it than before and that’s thanks to Rudimental. Listening to there music just takes me into my own little world were everything is about have a good time and feeling the love.

I think I heard about Rudimental pretty much the same time as every one else. I first heard Feel The Love whilst listening to BBC Radio 1 and I instantly loved the song. I dunno what it was but the song just took over me and I couldn’t stop dancing. There second single Not Giving In which again features John Newman as well as Alex Clare reached number 14 on the official UK top 40 chart. I love the fact that Rudimental decided to collaborate with John Newman again who by the way possibly has one of the most unique voices I’ve ever heard.

I have to admit I’m in love with there style of music. Not only that but there British. Any musician that is flying the British flag around the globe and is doing everything they can to make us proud as a nation definitely get a thumbs up from me. I really do hope that these guys do well in the future and continue to make hits that dominate charts just like Feel The Love did. I’ve got a lot of love for Rudimental and I wish them all the best in the future.

December’s Artist of the Month: Mumford & Sons

Mumford++Sons+By+Rebecca+Miller

Here at Roseberry Productions we like to show appreciation to music and all that comes with it. This month we have chosen Mumford & Sons as our Artist of the Month. I’ve got too much love for Mumford & Sons. Something about there music just seems to bring out the festival side of me. Everytime I hear ‘Little Lion Man’ I can’t help but stomp my feet and shake my head till it hurts. I feel like 2012 has definitely been the year for British music with the likes of One Direction, Cher Lloyd, Emeli Sande, Ed Sheeran and many more dominating in America. Mumford & Sons to me are one of the many British artists that define British music. There music to me is just raw talent.

I didn’t really have to research Mumford & Sons when I first heard about them cause they was everywhere. You couldn’t turn on the radio or the television without hearing about Mumford & Sons. Usually when I hear that an artist or musician being over publicized I would scream and immediately avoid everything to do with that artist but when I saw that Mumford & Sons were getting all this publicity and respect, for once I was mad. These guys deserve everything bit of success that they receive. To me, I feel that they have made indie folk music more popular than ever.

The band consists of Marcus, Ben, Ted and Country Winston; four every British guys who only have one love and that’s for music. There first album ‘Sigh No More’ sold more than 2 million copies in the US. They released the singles Little Lion Man, Winter Winds, Roll Away Your Stone and The Cave off of that album. There second album ‘Babel’ which just got released back in September has already sold over 1 million copies in the US and has earned them a numerous amount of Grammy nominations. The singles I Will Wait and Lover of the Light has been released off the album. I seriously LOVE LOVE LOVE this band. I hope they win big at the Grammy’s and continue to do a lot for British music.
